[Asia Economy Reporter Seo Mideum] The rights to the novel "Bulpyunhan Pyeonuijeom" (Volumes 1 and 2) by author Kim Ho-yeon, who has joined the ranks of million-sellers, have been sold to HarperCollins, a major publishing group in the English-speaking market.
Publisher Namuyeopja announced that, in cooperation with KL Management, an export-specialized agency, they have established an important foothold to strengthen their global presence.
Currently, the overseas translation rights of the novel have been exported to 13 countries across 11 language regions. It has been exported to Asian countries such as Thailand, Taiwan, China, Japan, Vietnam, and Indonesia, as well as Russia, T?rkiye, Bulgaria, Poland, Portugal, and Brazil, and with this contract, it will also enter the English-speaking market.
The local response has also been encouraging. In particular, in Taiwan, it ranked number one in the translated novel category at the Seongpum Bookstore within three months of publication, receiving positive feedback.
Set in a small convenience store in the alleys of Cheongpa-dong, Seoul, the novel warmly depicts the lives of neighbors struggling through difficult days. Both Volume 1, published in April 2021, and Volume 2, published in August 2022, received great attention, and by January of last year, sales reached one million copies.
Riding on this popularity, discussions are underway for stage play and drama productions. Starting with a theatrical performance in April, a drama adaptation is scheduled to air on the ENA channel by the end of the year.
