Seong Nak-in, Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly Member, Announces Candidacy for Changnyeong County Governor By-election

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Seong Nak-in, a member of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council, announced on the 13th his intention to resign from the council and run in the Changnyeong County mayoral by-election.

"In recent weeks, as both a council member and a resident of Changnyeong, I have spent a truly bewildering and chaotic yet very busy time," he said. "Thinking about the future of the county, I have endured one of the most agonizing periods of my life and have come to a new resolution."

Councilor Seong stated, "I intend to devote the rest of my life wholeheartedly to the vibrant future of Changnyeong, where I was born and raised, the county’s new leap forward, and the welfare improvement of its residents."

He continued, "Having worked closely with the residents in the administrative field for 34 years, and having served as Director of the Upo Wetland Management Office, Daehap Township Chief, Director of the Environmental Sanitation Division, Director of the Culture and Sports Division, and Mayor of Changnyeong-eup, I confidently consider myself an administrative expert," adding, "As both an administrator and politician, I will dedicate my experience and maturity wholeheartedly to the development of Changnyeong."

The Changnyeong County mayoral by-election scheduled for April 5th is being held after Kim Bu-young, the county mayor who was indicted last June during the local elections for violating the Public Official Election Act, suddenly passed away on January 9th.

On the same day, Councilor Seong submitted his resignation to the provincial council and plans to register as a preliminary candidate.
