[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will assign detailed road name addresses to single-family and multi-family houses ex officio to reduce inconvenience for citizens. A detailed address is information displayed after the building number in a road name address, commonly referring to the dong, floor, and unit number used in apartments.
Although detailed addresses have been assigned to some single-family and multi-family houses and neighborhood stores, if the building owner or tenant has not applied separately, only the address for the entire building is assigned, making it impossible to distinguish individual households.
The problem is that when detailed addresses are not assigned like this, mail is often not delivered properly.
In particular, there are cases where people suffer financial losses later because they are unaware of fines or penalties imposed.
In emergency situations, it is difficult to find several similar individual units, causing delays in 119 rescue operations.
Yongin City plans to assign detailed addresses ex officio to 808 single-family and multi-family houses this year to reduce citizens' inconvenience and hassle. They plan to utilize the road name address registry and building registry in the address information management system. Owners or tenants do not need to apply directly.
The city plans to assign detailed addresses to about 4,000 locations by 2026 after going through prior procedures such as collecting opinions and handling objections.
A city official said, "Single-family and multi-family houses with detailed addresses allow locations within buildings to be found quickly and easily, enabling accurate mail receipt and prompt response in emergencies," adding, "We will continue to find various ways to expand the scope of detailed address assignments so that citizens can conveniently use road name addresses."
