100% support for socially disadvantaged students, 25% or 50% support for general students depending on the class
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seongheon) is expanding the eligibility for tuition support for 'Native Speaker Real-time Video English Learning' to reduce private education expenses for residents and provide quality English education services.
The district increased the related budget this year to support tuition fees not only for socially disadvantaged students (basic livelihood security recipients, near-poor, legally single-parent families) but also for general students.
The video English learning program runs from March to December in 2-month courses, with a total of 5 sessions. Each session supports up to 70 socially disadvantaged students and 200 general students, totaling 350 and 1,000 students annually, respectively.
The target students are elementary, middle, and high school students residing in Seodaemun-gu. Socially disadvantaged students receive 100% tuition support, while general students receive 50% support for 1:3 classes or 25% support for 1:1 classes.
Currently, the first session of 2023 (March-April classes) is recruiting students on a first-come, first-served basis. Detailed information can be found on the Seodaemun-gu real-time education portal site.
The district has signed a business agreement with a specialized video English education company and provides affordable tuition and quality online learning opportunities to students and residents through this site.
Lee Seongheon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, "We hope that the expansion of tuition support will help more students improve their English conversation skills."
