Discussion on Measures with National Assembly Members, Provincial Councilors, and City Councilors

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sacheon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 13th that it held a ‘Joint Meeting of National Assembly Members and City/Provincial Council Members’ in the city hall’s large conference room to share major local issues and request support for national and provincial government-funded projects.

Presided over by Mayor Park Dong-sik of Sacheon, the meeting was attended by about 40 people including National Assembly member Ha Young-je, Chairman Kim Hyun-cheol of the Provincial Council’s Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Committee, Provincial Council member Lim Cheol-gyu, Vice Chairman Kim Gyu-heon, and senior officials.

The meeting proceeded with reports and Q&A sessions on seven major issues including support for the establishment of the Aerospace Agency in Sacheon and the creation of the Gyeongnam Aviation National Industrial Complex, as well as 17 proposed requests.

Sacheon City, Gyeongnam Province, is holding a joint meeting with members of the National Assembly, the city council chairman, and provincial council members.

The city requested the inclusion of the first phase of the Satellite Manufacturing Innovation Center project within the 2024 Aerospace Industry Cluster, with a national budget of 28.55 billion KRW, and full national and provincial funding of 9.8 billion KRW for the installation of buffer retention facilities at the Gyeongnam Aviation National Industrial Complex.

Additionally, it requested national funding of 1.752 billion KRW for the Yonghyeon Sports Facility Construction Project, and full support of 10.2 billion KRW in national funds and 5.1 billion KRW in provincial funds in 2024 for the improvement project of the natural disaster risk zone in More (Shinhyang).

Furthermore, it proposed support for a shortfall of 1.8 billion KRW in the construction project of a fishery patrol vessel, 1.5 billion KRW in national and provincial funds in 2024 for the installation of the Mujigae pedestrian bridge, and 1.25 billion KRW in national funds in 2024 for the coastal maintenance project from Songdo to Silan district.

It also requested special attention and support for the Samcheonpo Rainbow Ecological Trail, Nakjipo Port and Miryong Port, forest leisure sports facilities, the Jinju?Sacheon aviation industry line in the national railway network, the road construction between Sacheon Chukdong and Jinju Jeongchon, and the improvement project for the traffic control section at Baechunsamgeori on National Road No. 3.

In particular, it actively requested support to attract public institutions related to Sacheon among the approximately 360 government public institutions located in the metropolitan area, which are scheduled to be relocated in the second half of this year.

The public institutions related to Sacheon include the Aviation Safety Technology Institute, the Korea Defense Research Institute, the Korea Airports Corporation, and its affiliated organizations.

Assemblyman Ha said, “I believe that if we cooperate and respond to the projects proposed through this meeting, we will be able to draw a blueprint for the development of Sacheon City.”

Mayor Park said, “There is no distinction between ruling and opposition parties when it comes to the development of Sacheon City,” and added, “I ask the National Assembly members, provincial council members, and city council members from both ruling and opposition parties to unite their hearts so that major projects responsible for the city’s future can be carried out without any setbacks.”
