Final Day of DP World Tour Singapore Classic: 1 Under Par
Wang Jeong-hoon suffered a come-from-behind defeat.
On the 12th (local time), Wang Jeong-hoon finished the final 4th round of the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) Singapore Classic (total prize money $2 million) at Laguna National Golf Resort Club (par 72, 7,420 yards) in Singapore with a 1-under-par, dropping to a tie for 3rd place (15-under-par 273 strokes). Having completed his military service last year and returned to the field this year, Wang Jeong-hoon aimed for his 4th career win since his victory at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in January 2017 but fell short of his goal.
Wang Jeong-hoon started tied for the lead by 1 stroke, recording 3 birdies and 2 bogeys. He recovered from a bogey on the 7th hole (par 3) with a birdie on the 8th hole, but lost another stroke on the 10th hole (also par 4) and struggled to reduce his score further. Wang Jeong-hoon made 'stepping stone birdies' on the 13th and 15th holes, but there were not enough holes remaining. Having qualified for the main event three times this year, he was satisfied with his best finish of a 'top 3' placement.
Ockie Strydom (South Africa) swept up 9 birdies without any bogeys to secure a 1-stroke victory (19-under-par 269 strokes). This was his 2nd career win, three months after winning the Alfred Dunhill Championship last November, with a winner's prize of $340,000 (approximately 430 million KRW). Sami V?lim?ki (Finland) finished 2nd (18-under-par 270 strokes), and Alejandro del Rey (Spain), who was tied for the lead the previous day, ended the tournament tied for 3rd place.
