Famous Restaurant in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Banned from TikTok Use in Restaurant

As 'hygiene terrorism' incidents, such as spitting on conveyor belt sushi to post videos on social networking services (SNS), have occurred, some overseas restaurants have started implementing 'TikTok ban' measures.

According to Taiwan media including United Daily News on the 12th, Diao Ke Si Tang, a famous restaurant in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, announced that TikTok is not allowed to be used inside the restaurant.

The restaurant also added that online influencers (Wanghong, 網紅) active on TikTok are prohibited from entering.

The restaurant explained that this is due to concerns about copycat incidents of the 'hygiene terrorism' that occurred at the Japanese sushi chain Sushiro.

Previously in Japan, a video showing a 17-year-old teenager spitting on a water cup and sushi on the conveyor belt at a Sushiro chain store was posted on TikTok and other platforms, causing controversy.

In Taiwan as well, a man caused a stir in August 2020 by filming himself drinking milk at a large supermarket and then putting it back on the shelf.

Meanwhile, cases of some TikTok influencers uploading inappropriate videos for popularity have been continuously occurring overseas.

In December last year, Casey Sigmund (20), a TikTok influencer, was prosecuted by federal prosecutors for hitting a golf tee shot from a cliff at the Grand Canyon, a representative national park of the United States, toward the canyon floor.

Sigmund’s tee shot at the Grand Canyon received strong public criticism.

In particular, the Grand Canyon National Park posted Sigmund’s tee shot scene on the park’s Instagram account and lamented, "Do we really have to say not to hit tee shots toward the canyon floor?"
