Minju: "If You Are Confident, You Should Immediately Comply with the Special Prosecutor"
People Power Party: "An Obsession-Like Claim"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 12th, the Democratic Party of Korea urged the acceptance of a dual special prosecution regarding the 'Daejang-dong scandal' and the 'Deutsche Motors scandal,' stating that "there is a growing demand that the investigations into Daejang-dong and First Lady Kim Geon-hee should no longer be left to the prosecution." The People Power Party strongly criticized this, calling it a "repetitive claim bordering on obsession."
On the same day, Cho Jung-sik, the Secretary-General, held a press conference at the National Assembly and said, "If the President and First Lady Kim are innocent and confident, they should immediately comply with the special prosecution," adding, "The truth must be revealed through the Daejang-dong special prosecution and the Kim Geon-hee special prosecution."
Secretary-General Cho criticized, "If the prosecution had properly conducted even one-tenth of the investigation effort they put into Representative Lee Jae-myung, would a not guilty verdict have come out? Apart from Kwak Sang-do, investigations into the 5 billion won club were virtually nonexistent, no investigation was initiated to trace the flow of money, and the legal community's claims that third-party bribery charges should be applied were ignored, starting instead with a lenient investigation under the low-penalty charge of mediation receipt."
Regarding the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation allegations, he pointed out, "This clearly shows the 'Kim Geon-hee bulletproof prosecution.' The prosecution did not even summon First Lady Kim, who gained 3.5 billion won in capital gains, and concealed and downplayed evidence related to her stock sale instruction texts and possible accomplice involvement." He continued, "In this ruling, the court recognized the comprehensive crime for the second-stage crimes after October 2010, leaving the statute of limitations for the allegations involving First Lady Kim intact. Then, the Presidential Office issued a statement, attempting to manipulate the ruling because the desired result of 'Kim Geon-hee's innocence' did not come out. The more the Presidential Office intervenes, the more the public suspects and becomes convinced that there is something to hide and conceal."
Regarding the Justice Party's cautious stance on the 'Kim Geon-hee special prosecution,' he said, "I understand that the Justice Party also knows well that leaving the investigation of First Lady Kim to the prosecution will not proceed properly, so they are not opposed to the special prosecution itself. We will discuss and consult with the Justice Party going forward."
On the other hand, the People Power Party strongly criticized, saying, "The Democratic Party is repeatedly making obsessive special prosecution claims regarding matters related to the President's spouse from over ten years ago."
On the same day, Park Jeong-ha, the chief spokesperson, said in a statement, "Even though it is known that even the Justice Party is showing a cautious stance, the Democratic Party seems to continue insisting on the necessity of a special prosecution for the President's spouse. Do they think the special prosecution is a trump card for the Democratic Party?"
Emergency Response Committee Chairman Jeong Jin-seok also argued on Facebook, "According to the court's judgment, there is no reason whatsoever to push for a 'First Lady special prosecution.'" He added, "The Democratic Party, which has prided itself as a force for democratization, is destroying the democracy we have built over 70 years. The reason is all about 'shielding Representative Lee Jae-myung.' The public is calling the Democratic Party's irrational Kim Geon-hee special prosecution the 'all-or-nothing special prosecution' and the 'stubborn special prosecution.'"
He emphasized, "Stop the stalking of the First Lady that has been ongoing for four years immediately. Stop the reckless political retaliation against the Yoon Seok-yeol family that destroys parliamentary democracy and defies judicial rulings. It's time to put an end to this."
