‘Golf Emperor’ Woods: "See You on the Field Next Week"

Return to Genesis Invitational After 7 Months

The "Golf Emperor" Tiger Woods (USA) is returning to the field.

On the 11th (local time), Woods announced on his social media that "I am ready to participate in next week's PGA Tour event." This marks Woods' first appearance in a tour event in seven months since The Open last July. Including exhibition events, it is his first appearance in two months since the PNC Championship last December.

The Genesis Invitational (total prize money of $20 million), which has attracted more attention as Woods' comeback event, will be held from the 16th at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, USA. This tournament is one of the 'premier events' designated by the PGA Tour.

After severely injuring his leg in a car accident in February 2021, Woods only participated in some tournaments. After playing in the family event PNC Championship with his son Charlie in December of that year, he appeared in only three major tournaments last year: the Masters in April, the PGA Championship in May, and The Open in July.

Woods was scheduled to participate in the Hero World Challenge hosted by his foundation in early December last year but withdrew due to pain in the sole of his right foot. He participated in the exhibition events 'The Match' and the PNC Championship held afterward but did not show full condition.

Woods previously stated, "My goal for 2023 is to participate in one or two additional tournaments besides the major championships." The Genesis Invitational, hosted by his foundation, became his first tournament of the year.
