[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] The U.S. Air Force conducted a test launch of an unarmed intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in California.
On the 10th (local time), according to AP News and others, the U.S. Air Force Global Strike Command announced that as part of routine defense training, it launched a Minuteman-3 missile at 11:01 PM from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The missile's reentry vehicle flew 6,800 km to the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific.
It added, "Such test launches have been conducted more than 300 times to date," and "This test is not related to any current global events."
The Minuteman-3 system is an ICBM that has been deployed and in use for decades, and the U.S. Air Force plans to replace this missile with a new missile called 'Sentinel.'
The U.S. Air Force stated, "We will do our best to ensure that the Minuteman-3 maintains a credible deterrent until the Sentinel achieves full capability in the mid-2030s."
