Gyeongnam National University and University of British Columbia in Canada Sign Joint Research Agreement

Promise of Mutual Cooperation for Building a Korean-style Digital Platform

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jonggu Song] The ICT/SW Convergence Innovation Project Group at Gyeongnam National University announced on the 10th that it has signed a joint research agreement with Professor Yusuf Altintas's team at the University of British Columbia, Canada.


Professor Yusuf Altintas's team at the University of British Columbia in Canada, centered around the Manufacturing Automation Lab, holds outstanding research achievements in CNC machine process optimization, tool optimization, chatter and vibration control, and quality management.

Through this, they have recorded the highest citation index in the manufacturing process field. Professor Altintas, who leads the research team, serves as the editor-in-chief of the journal Manufacturing Science and Technology published by the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), and is active as a world-renowned expert in the manufacturing process field.


This agreement was prepared to mutually cooperate in building the Korean-style digital platform 'WOORI-X,' which the Gyeongnam National University ICT/SW Convergence Innovation Project Group is promoting together with a consortium including LG Electronics. Both institutions promised to establish a joint research promotion system through the agreement.


Through this agreement, the project group plans to support process optimization of CNC machines owned by LG Electronics' partner companies. Additionally, they plan to jointly promote the 'I4.0 Transition Pilot Project,' which will contribute to improving product performance through mutual linkage of manufacturing data with LG Electronics. Through this, from the second half of 2023, they intend to supply convergence-type innovative talents who will lead digital transformation to local companies.
