President Yoon's Approval Rating Drops 2%p to 32%
People Power Party 37%, Democratic Party 31%
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating for his administration has slightly declined, falling to the low 30% range. While the ruling party, the People Power Party, saw an increase in support, the opposition party, the Democratic Party of Korea, experienced a decline.
According to Gallup's regular survey conducted from the 7th to the 9th (a telephone interviewer survey of 1,002 adults aged 18 and over nationwide), the percentage of respondents who said President Yoon is performing well dropped by 2 percentage points from last week's survey to 32%. Negative evaluations, saying he is performing poorly, rose by 3 percentage points to 59%. Since the end of last year, President Yoon's approval rating had maintained the mid-30% range, but it has now slightly declined again for the second consecutive week, falling back to the low 30% range.
When asked the reasons for positively evaluating President Yoon's job performance (324 respondents, open-ended), the responses were 'diplomacy' (16%), 'fairness, justice, principles' (9%), 'labor union response' (7%), 'decisiveness, drive, perseverance', and 'national defense and security' (both 5%). The reasons for negative evaluations (586 respondents, open-ended) included 'economy, livelihood, inflation' (17%), 'diplomacy', 'autocratic, unilateral' (both 12%), 'lack of experience, qualifications, incompetence' (6%), and 'internal conflicts within the ruling party, interference in party affairs' (5%). Compared to last week's survey, 'internal conflicts within the ruling party, interference in party affairs' was newly added.
Although the president's approval rating declined, the ruling party's support increased. Conversely, the support for the main opposition party showed a downward trend, attracting attention.
The People Power Party's support rose by 2 percentage points from last week to 37%. The Democratic Party's support fell by 3 percentage points from last week to 31%.
