Preparing for the New Semester! Busan Area Schools Implement 'Intensive Operation Period'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] All schools in the Busan area will implement a ‘Focused Operation Period’ for more than three days starting from the 13th to prepare for the new semester.

On the 10th, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced that most elementary, middle, and high schools in the Busan area will complete the 2022 academic schedule by the 10th and take time during the end-of-year vacation to prepare for the new semester.

The ‘Focused Operation Period’ for new semester preparation is intended for the faculty and staff to collaborate in establishing the school’s educational plan, educational goals, and key educational activities, concretizing the curriculum and educational activities.

During this ‘Focused Operation Period,’ teachers newly appointed to schools as of March 1 will also participate in establishing the school’s educational plan. To ensure the participation of all faculty and staff in planning, the Busan Office of Education has moved the assignment date for newly appointed teachers about two weeks earlier than in previous years starting this year.

During this period, frontline schools will establish new semester educational plans including ▲deciding work distribution through consultation among members at the principal’s discretion ▲discussing which 2022 academic year educational activities should be continued, improved, or discontinued ▲establishing plans for operating professional learning communities.

Park Ji-hoon, Director of the Education Policy Division at the Busan Office of Education, said, “The Focused Operation Period is a time when all faculty and staff collaboratively draw a blueprint for the 2023 academic year’s school education,” and added, “This period will be a good opportunity to enhance the school’s educational capacity and the quality of public education based on communication and empathy.”
