Possible Pregnancy Without Ovaries and Uterus Removal
Estimated 2 Million Transgender People in India
An Indian transgender couple, who became a sensation on social networking services (SNS) by revealing a 'husband's maternity photo,' has safely welcomed a new life.
On the 7th (local time), the British BBC introduced the story of the transgender couple Jiya Paval (21) and Zahad (23). Paval was born male but currently identifies as female. Conversely, Zahad was born female but now identifies as male.

The couple decided to have a baby one and a half years ago. While undergoing gender transition, they stopped hormone therapy to conceive. Zahad, who was transitioning from female to male, was still able to become pregnant because he had not yet had his ovaries and uterus removed. This allowed Zahad to take the 'husband's maternity photo.'
The photo that Paval posted on her Instagram became a huge topic within the Indian community. The photo received over 20,000 likes and more than 1,000 congratulatory comments. Transgender actor S Negah commented on the photo, saying, "Transgender people deserve to have families too."
Paval and Zahad said, "This is very rare in India," and "As far as we know, there are no transgender people in India who openly identify themselves as biological parents."

BBC explained, "It is estimated that there are about 2 million transgender people in India," and "In 2014, the Indian Supreme Court ruled that they have the same rights as others." However, BBC pointed out, "Transgender people in India still face difficulties accessing education and healthcare and often encounter prejudice."
The couple gave birth about a month earlier than the due date, on the 8th. Paval posted a photo on Instagram holding the baby's tiny hand and said, "This morning at 9:37 AM, a 2.92 kg baby was safely born with a loud cry," and "Thank you to everyone who was by our side." The baby's gender was not disclosed.
