SK, Hyundai Motor, LG, and Others Donate Funds
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] Domestic companies are also stepping up to support the victims of the T?rkiye-Syria earthquake, which has resulted in over 20,000 deaths. They are supplying necessary goods to relief sites through their local subsidiaries and assisting in relief activities.
On the 10th, SK Group held an emergency meeting of the Social Value (SV) Committee and announced that it had decided to donate 1 million dollars through the Community Chest of Korea for earthquake recovery in T?rkiye. This donation will be used for procuring and delivering relief supplies and conducting relief activities on site.
Cho Kyung-mok, Chairman of the SK Supex Council SV Committee, said, "We decided on immediate support from a humanitarian perspective to promptly restore the damage in allied countries such as T?rkiye and to participate in global relief efforts."
Hyundai Motor Group is providing 2 million dollars in relief donations to T?rkiye and Syria. A Hyundai Motor Group official said, "We send our condolences to the people of T?rkiye and Syria who suffered great damage from the sudden earthquake and hope this will help a little in their speedy recovery."
Additionally, Hyundai Motor's local subsidiary in T?rkiye is also engaged in emergency support activities. It has provided 250,000 euros for life-saving equipment such as cutters and grinders needed for rescue at buried sites, and 250,000 euros for essential daily necessities for disaster victims, including food, hygiene products, and cold-weather supplies. Repair costs for earthquake-damaged vehicles not covered by insurance and regular inspection fees for vehicles in disaster areas will be discounted by 50%.
LG also donated 1 million dollars in relief funds to the Korean Red Cross to assist T?rkiye. On the same day, LG Group stated, "We decided to support with donations to express our condolences to the people of T?rkiye who lost their homes and suffered great damage due to the unexpected disaster, and to help the prompt recovery of the affected areas even a little."
The donated funds will be used for recovery and support for disaster victims in cooperation with the Turkish government.
LG Electronics' T?rkiye subsidiary also delivered a separate earthquake relief fund through the local nonprofit relief organization Anatolia People's Peace Foundation (AHBAP). They are also reviewing additional support measures necessary for earthquake recovery, such as providing supplies for rebuilding infrastructure like laundromats and schools.
HL Group, which has maintained ties with T?rkiye for 26 years since establishing a local subsidiary in 1997, will also provide 300,000 dollars in relief funds. HL Mando, which has a subsidiary in T?rkiye, will spend 200,000 dollars, and HL Holdings will spend 100,000 dollars. HL Group Chairman Chung Mong-won said, "We express our heartfelt sympathy to the people of T?rkiye who lost their families and homes in this earthquake. We will spare no support not only at the two local business sites but also at the group level."
