The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has estimated that approximately 270 billion KRW is needed as initial emergency relief funds for Turkey and Syria, which were affected by the earthquake.
According to Russia's Sputnik News on the 9th (local time), Xavier Castellanos, IFRC Deputy Secretary General for Operations Coordination, stated in an interview, "A budget of 200 million Swiss francs (about 274.2 billion KRW) has been allocated for emergency relief funds."
He explained that 120 million francs (about 164.5 billion KRW) will be provided to Turkey, and the remaining 80 million francs (about 109.7 billion KRW) will be allocated to Syria.
Castellanos said that these relief funds are expected to be used for recovery efforts over the next 12 months.
He emphasized that this support fund is only the initial emergency relief fund, and it will likely take several more months for the IFRC to determine the final amount of funding to support Turkey and Syria.
Meanwhile, on the 6th, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred in Turkey. As of 7 a.m. that day, more than 15,000 people had died in Turkey and Syria.
