Lee Sun-hee, Gyeongbuk Provincial Council Member, Honored with the Grand Prize for Local Autonomy Evaluation Excellence Gyeongbuk Provincial Council Member Lee Sun-hee.

Organized by the Yeouido Policy Research Institute and evaluated by the Korea Corporate Technology Value Evaluation Association and the public interest organization Monitoring Korea, the ‘2022 Korea Local Autonomy Evaluation Legislative Policy Vision Awards’ is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to revitalizing local autonomy systems, improving residents’ quality of life, and implementing competitive regional development policies.

Assembly member Lee Sun-hee led efforts to realize an advanced local council as the inaugural chairperson of the 12th Budget and Accounts Special Committee and a member of the Planning and Economy Committee of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly. She also worked to enhance the status of local councils and realize local autonomy and decentralization by proposing ordinances directly related to the lives of Gyeongbuk residents.

She notably stood out in her role as chairperson of the Budget and Accounts Special Committee.

To improve the rationality of Gyeongbuk Province’s financial management, she prevented wasteful spending of the province’s budget and secured transparency in the budget executed by public institutions by leading the proposal of the ‘Ordinance on the Settlement of Contributions to Public Institutions in Gyeongsangbuk-do.’ This ensured that the taxpayers’ money of Gyeongbuk residents was properly used as a driving force for regional economic growth.

Additionally, through budget review and administrative audits in the Planning and Economy Committee, she presented policy alternatives for supporting small business owners, discovering new growth industries, fostering regional specialized industries, and attracting investment from external companies, thereby facilitating the establishment of effective provincial government policies.

Lee Sun-hee, member of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly, said, “It is an honor to receive such an award, but serving the residents with a sincere heart in my legislative activities is simply what I should do as an assembly member. The development of local autonomy is only possible when the voices of residents are well reflected in local government operations, so I will continue to communicate with residents and strive to open a new era of local governance.”
