Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam, Protect Pine Trees... Emergency Control of Pine Wilt Disease

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Song Jong-gu] Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is conducting emergency pine wilt disease control work in the first half of the year to protect pine trees in the forest and create a healthy forest ecosystem.

Pine wilt disease is a pest that invades pine and Korean pine trees through its vector, the pine sawyer beetle, rapidly proliferates, and blocks the movement of water and nutrients, causing the trees to wither in a short time.

Recently, as pine wilt disease has spread nationwide, it has also caused damage within Goseong-gun.

Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam, Protect Pine Trees... Emergency Control of Pine Wilt Disease Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will carry out emergency control measures for pine wilt disease.

Accordingly, the county plans to carry out control work on damaged trees over an area of about 303 hectares, focusing on Hoihwa-myeon and Yeong-o-myeon, where the damage from the pine wilt disease is severe.

For efficient control, intensive monitoring was conducted from May to October last year, and in November of the same year, the Korea Forest Service Emergency Control Response Team provided consulting on pine wilt disease control and advised on the control plan and strategy.

Lee Yeon-ok, Director of the Green Space and Park Division, said, “For proactive control of pine wilt disease, efforts to prevent artificial spread must be made along with control measures,” and added, “Residents should also refrain from unauthorized movement of pine trees and illegal logging.”
