[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, announced that he will launch a fundraising campaign to support earthquake damage recovery in Turkey and Syria. He added that public officials at the provincial government office will also send letters of condolence to the affected areas.
On the 9th, Kim posted on his social media (SNS), "The earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria has claimed over 10,000 lives," expressing regret that "the 'golden time' of 72 hours for rescue, counted from the first major tremor, has already passed."
He continued, "Though time is unforgiving, we must believe that miracles happen if we do not lose hope," and shared, "A 'mother's miracle' was reported, where a mother gave birth and protected her child amidst the rubble of collapsed buildings before passing away. The newborn baby, still connected by the umbilical cord, was eventually rescued alive."
Furthermore, Governor Kim stated, "Gyeonggi Province also wants to add hope," and added, "All employees and labor unions of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government have decided to participate in fundraising for the earthquake damage recovery. We also plan to send letters of condolence filled with the warm hearts of our staff and all Gyeonggi residents."
