[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The biggest battleground in the March 8 party convention to elect the new leadership of the People Power Party appears to be the Seoul metropolitan area.


Jung Jin-seok, the emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, announced on the 9th, "At the party emergency committee meeting, we finalized the list of the electorate for the election of the party leader and supreme council members at this convention."


The total number of eligible voters is 839,569, of which 786,783 are responsible party members who pay party dues, and 43,842 are general party members. The People Power Party will elect the leadership reflecting 100% of the party members' votes in this convention.

By region, the distribution is as follows: ▲Seoul 14.79%, ▲Busan 6.24%, ▲Daegu 6.72%, ▲Incheon 4.29%, ▲Gwangju 0.7%, ▲Daejeon 2.74%, ▲Ulsan 3.20%, ▲Sejong 0.45%, ▲Gyeonggi 18.71%, ▲Gangwon 4.46%, ▲Chungbuk 5.26%, ▲Chungnam 6.11%, ▲Jeonbuk 0.75%, ▲Jeonnam 0.68%, ▲Gyeongbuk 14.31%, ▲Gyeongnam 9.2%, ▲Jeju 1.3%, and ▲Overseas 0.1%. The Seoul metropolitan area accounts for the largest share at 33.5%. The traditional stronghold of Daegu-Gyeongbuk (TK) follows with 21.03%, and Busan-Gyeongnam (PK) holds 18.64%.


By age group, those in their 60s make up the largest portion at 29.24%, followed by those in their 50s at 25.56%, 40s at 14.59%, and 70 and above at 12.80%. The 10-20s age group accounts for 7.78%, and those in their 30s make up 10.03%, totaling 17.81% for the 20s and 30s generation. The proportion of young and middle-aged party members up to their 40s is 32.4%.


Chairman Jung said, "Once the cutoff results are finalized at 10 a.m. tomorrow, we will convert and notify 840,000 members with secure numbers, and from tomorrow afternoon, these will be distributed to the candidates." He added, "The cutoff results will be received directly from the polling company at 10 a.m. and delivered only to the election commission chairman. The ranking and vote percentages will not be announced; only the names of those who passed the cutoff will be announced in alphabetical order."
