The (provisional name) Donggok Elementary School is planned to be newly established in Donggok-ri, Sandong-eup, Gumi City, within the first phase area of the Gumi High-Tech Valley National Industrial Complex, with a total of 28 classes consisting of 24 general classes and 4 special classes.

New Elementary School Established in Sandong-eup, Gumi... Population Increases by Over 20,000 in 4 Years Planned site for the new Donggok Elementary School (tentative name) in Gumi.

The population of Sandong-eup, Gumi City, increased by 22,181 from 4,438 in 2016 to 26,619 in 2020, leading to the administrative district being upgraded from ‘Sandong-myeon’ to ‘Sandong-eup’ in January 2021. Due to the continuous influx of population, 2,740 new apartment units in Sandong-eup are scheduled to begin occupancy from January 2026, making the establishment of a new elementary school an urgent need in the area.

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education expects that the Ministry of Education's approval for the new school will help alleviate difficulties caused by long-distance commuting for students and parents moving into the apartments in the Gumi High-Tech Valley National Industrial Complex.

The (provisional name) Donggok Elementary School, which received approval for establishment, will proceed with specific establishment plans such as the opening date through administrative and financial procedures conducted by the relevant education support office.

Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Education, stated, “We will spare no effort to support improvements in the difficult long-distance commuting and poor educational conditions caused by apartment development so that students can receive education in a better educational environment.”
