Seong Il-jong: "Kwon Eun-hee was never someone who cooperated with our party"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Sung Il-jong, the Policy Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, stated that Rep. Kwon Eun-hee of his party, who voted in favor of the impeachment motion against Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, "was never someone who cooperated with our party."

On the 9th, during MBC's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus,' Chairman Sung said, "She originally insisted on merging with the Democratic Party when the merger happened, and since she is a proportional representative, she probably wanted to keep her seat despite differing opinions, so I assume Rep. Kwon voted in favor."

Although they share the same party affiliation, their views are completely different. Regarding the 179 votes in favor of the impeachment motion, which combined the seats of the Democratic Party and the three opposition parties, there has been analysis suggesting that some defections occurred within the People Power Party as well. Rep. Kwon is known to have voted in favor among the People Power Party members.

During the merger process between the People Power Party and the People Party in March last year, Rep. Kwon requested expulsion, stating that "it is difficult to accept a merger that returns to the vested two-party system," but since the expulsion motion did not pass, she remained in the merged party. Rep. Kwon also attended the vote on the motion of no confidence against Minister Lee last year.

Chairman Sung criticized the impeachment motion against Minister Lee, led by the Democratic Party the previous day, saying, "Impeachment is the highest and final step that the National Assembly can take. It must be handled very carefully," and added, "There may be political responsibility, but questioning legal issues politically is a logical contradiction. Therefore, in this case, the legislature has set a very bad precedent."
