Active Proposal for the Second Relocation of Public Institutions to Jinju Innovation City
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jo Gyu-il, mayor of Jinju City, Gyeongnam, met with Woo Dong-gi, chairman of the National Balanced Development Committee, on the 8th to propose the second relocation of metropolitan public institutions to Jinju Innovation City in Gyeongnam for regional balanced development and activation of the innovation city.
This meeting between Mayor Jo and Chairman Woo is an active move to ensure that the second relocation can take place to Jinju Innovation City in Gyeongnam, which has residential conditions and infrastructure for transportation and industry, ahead of the government's full-scale establishment of the 'Basic Plan for the Second Relocation of Public Institutions.'
Currently, Jinju City is selecting 27 institutions related to the first relocated institutions in connection with the second relocation of metropolitan public institutions and is making efforts to attract these institutions.
At the meeting, Mayor Jo stated, "To achieve industrial agglomeration and activate the innovation city, institutions related to the first relocated public institutions should be additionally relocated to the innovation city to create a synergy effect," and added, "If dispersed to other regions, it will cause regional conflicts and make it more difficult to improve regional imbalance, so please comply with the innovation city relocation principles according to the Innovation City Act."
Chairman Woo said, "The second relocation of public institutions will be based on the principle of relocation to innovation cities, but various measures to resolve conflicts between regions will be reviewed."
Earlier in January, Jinju City also met with Kim Bok-hwan, deputy head of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Innovation City Development Promotion Team, to propose the second relocation of public institutions to the innovation city. The city has been actively working to attract public institutions, including passing a joint statement with heads of nationwide innovation city (district) councils urging priority allocation to existing innovation cities for the second relocation of public institutions.
Going forward, Jinju City plans to make every effort to establish the innovation city as a regional growth hub through the second relocation of institutions related to the relocated public institutions and to build a foundation for the development of Gyeongnam.
