Knowing the Population Reveals the Future

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, held a special lecture on the population extinction crisis titled "Geochang Ae Sal-eurittda" with the 3rd Youth Network activists at the Geochang-gun Youth Training Center.

The Youth Network is a governance body operated to expand youth participation and reflect their opinions in the county's youth policies. This year, 46 members were selected through an open recruitment in December last year for the 3rd term.

This special lecture, under the theme "Knowing Population Reveals the Future," compared past and present low birthrate and aging statistics in Korea (median age, aging index, fertility rate, etc.) and addressed various social issues arising from these trends.

A special lecture on the population extinction crisis in Geochang-gui, Gyeongnam is being conducted.

In particular, regarding the Korean culture that worsens the low birthrate, the lecture emphasized individual consciousness change with the principle of "Respect before Understanding."

One participant in the lecture said, "This special lecture broadened my perspective on population decline," and added, "I hope that through future education, other residents will also share empathy for the population extinction crisis."

Geochang-gun is implementing various measures to raise social interest in the population extinction crisis, including policy support such as marriage congratulatory money and childbirth congratulatory money, and signing an agreement with the Youth Network in September last year.
