Cultivating Core Talent Needed for Social Economy Enterprises
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Gyeongsang National University has been selected as a ‘2023 Leading University for Social Economy’ by the Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency.
The Leading University for Social Economy project aims to nurture key talents needed by social enterprises in the region and field by utilizing the university’s specialized educational infrastructure.
It operates a semi-MBA level ‘Leadership Course’ to cultivate core leaders who will lead the social enterprise ecosystem, and an ‘Undergraduate Course’ where university students learn social entrepreneurship spirit and connect to employment and start-ups in social enterprises to grow as next-generation social enterprise leaders.
Gyeongsang National University runs a specialized course on ‘Strengthening Social Services’ led by social enterprises to respond to national tasks such as ‘Advancing Welfare and Care Services through Social Service Innovation,’ and a ‘Local Creator Training’ specialized course to solve issues like regional extinction and revitalization of the local economy.
The program that solves various problems faced by local social economy fields and local creators through practical subjects (practicum) in each specialized course is a unique program exclusive to Gyeongsang National University, not seen in other leading universities.
In addition, activities to expand awareness of social economy within the university, open seminars, and contests are also planned. In particular, although the social economy-related major is currently offered mainly at the Chilam Campus, it is expected that many departments at the Gajwa Campus will participate in this major through the operation of the Leading University program.
Furthermore, based on practical achievements through the practicum, the university plans to establish a cooperative system with various institutions such as employment and start-up related organizations, research institutes, and colleges within the university.
Another goal of the Leading University for Social Economy project is to strengthen exchanges and networks among universities operating social economy curricula. To this end, Gyeongsang National University plans to actively participate in the Social Economy Leading University Performance Sharing Meeting (November) and the Social Economy University Education Forum (July).
Gyeongsang National University plans to recruit 45 trainees in March and operate the program from April to December. The education will be conducted at Chilam Campus and Gajwa Campus. The tuition fee is 300,000 KRW, which will be fully refunded if attendance exceeds 80%.
