Planned Close Cooperation with the Turkish Government
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] The Republic of Korea's Emergency Relief Team (KDRT) for responding to the earthquake damage in Turkey arrived at Gaziantep International Airport in Turkey on the 8th.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, "Our military transport aircraft carrying the overseas emergency relief team arrived at Gaziantep Airport, Turkey, at 6:57 a.m. local time on the 8th (12:57 p.m. Korean time)."
Korea's emergency relief team is led by Won Do-yeon, Director of the Development Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and consists of 1 member from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 49 from the Ministry of National Defense, 62 from the National Fire Agency, and 6 from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The emergency relief team plans to conduct search and rescue operations in the Hatay region. Detailed activities and missions will be decided through consultations with the Turkish government, other countries' emergency relief teams dispatched locally, and the United Nations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "We hope that the dispatch of the emergency relief team and humanitarian aid to Turkey will help the Turkish people, who are suffering from the large-scale earthquake, to stabilize their lives quickly and recover from the damage."
