Gwangjin-gu Provides 100,000 Won Support to Over 12,000 Households Facing Heating Cost Burden

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is providing special heating cost support of 100,000 KRW per household to about 12,000 vulnerable households.

The district urgently allocated a budget of 1.1846 billion KRW to help energy-vulnerable groups struggling with rising heating costs this winter.

The first support target is 10,119 households receiving basic living subsidies in the area. The district secured a budget of 1.0119 billion KRW from the Seoul City Disaster Management Fund and plans to pay 100,000 KRW per household to the head of household's account on the 10th of this month.

The second support target includes 1,727 households such as Seoul-type basic livelihood recipients, near-poverty groups, and single-parent families. The district urgently allocated 172.7 million KRW from its own resources to support vulnerable groups excluded from Seoul City's heating cost support. It plans to pay 100,000 KRW per household to the head of household's account or in cash on the 20th.

Eligible households will receive support automatically without a separate application process. However, payments may be restricted if there are special circumstances such as moving out or death as of January 31 of this year.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "I hope this will be of some help to residents going through a difficult time due to the record-breaking cold wave and soaring heating costs," adding, "We will do our best to carefully look after the vulnerable and help them spend the rest of the winter warmly."

Urgent support for 62 elderly welfare facilities excluded from existing city support... Fully funded by the district

Differential payments of 300,000 to 1,000,000 KRW per facility based on area and number of users

Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it will provide special heating cost support to elderly welfare facilities struggling with the recent cold wave and soaring heating costs.

This heating cost support is a follow-up measure from the "Cold Wave Response Livelihood Safety Countermeasure Meeting" held on the 20th of last month, chaired by the district mayor.

The district will provide heating cost support totaling 24 million KRW, fully funded by the district, to 62 elderly welfare facilities excluded from Seoul City's existing heating cost support. The target facilities include elderly residential facilities, elderly medical facilities, elderly home care facilities, and elderly job institutions.

The special heating cost will be differentially provided from 300,000 to 1,000,000 KRW per facility based on area and number of users, and payments are expected to be made as early as this week.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, "I hope this will be of some help to elderly welfare facilities facing increased operational burdens due to rising heating costs."

Seongbuk-gu, Part of Comprehensive 3.6 Billion KRW Support to Overcome Heating Cost Crisis

Providing over 800 heating supplies to about 700 heating-vulnerable households

Emergency support completed with 225 electric mats and 340 winter blankets for 489 households

Additional 200 warming supplies to be delivered through further demand surveys at community centers

Seongbuk-gu (District Mayor Lee Seung-ro) is providing 1.977 billion KRW on its own, along with government and Seoul City support, for a total of 3.633 billion KRW in comprehensive support to overcome the heating cost crisis.

The district is providing heating cost support to vulnerable groups and small business owners to alleviate difficulties caused by recent soaring heating costs, and is also providing emergency heating cost support worth 3.6 billion KRW to social welfare facilities such as senior centers and welfare centers, as well as childcare facilities like daycare centers.

In addition, the district is actively supporting heating supplies, urgently providing over 800 heating supplies to about 700 heating-vulnerable households.

In December 2022, when concerns about soaring heating costs became serious, 489 households in urgent need were proactively selected and provided with 225 electric mats and 340 winter blankets.

Additionally, using special grants, the district purchased 200 more electric mats for vulnerable groups and is preparing to provide additional support. The 'Guseok Guseok Balguldan,' a group of 120 residents familiar with the area who identify neighbors in crisis and connect them with administration, along with community centers, have completed additional demand surveys and are preparing for distribution.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, "The recent soaring heating costs and economic crisis combined with the cold wave have increased the suffering of vulnerable groups," adding, "We are focusing administrative efforts on identifying and supporting neighbors in need so that vulnerable groups do not fall into winter hardship."
