ChatGPT, Confused About Kim Jong-un ... "Cruel Dictator or Important Leader"

'AI Conversation Service' ChatGPT Response
"North Korean People Live in Shadows" Also Writes Poems

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] Recent reports have emerged that the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot 'ChatGPT,' which has been receiving significant attention, described North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un as a "cruel dictator or an important leader."

According to Radio Free Asia (RFA) on the 8th, when asked "What do you think about Chairman Kim Jong-un?" ChatGPT responded, "Some see him as a cruel dictator who infringes on the rights and freedoms of North Korean people," and "Others view him as an important leader working to secure national stability and the future."

When prompted to "write a poem about North Korea," it expressed, "North Korea is a land of mystery and power. Its people live in shadows, unseen. A country ruled by iron will and a ruthless heart. Freedom is but a dream, torn and fallen."

When asked, "What would you like to say to the people of North Korea?" the answer was, "Every human has the right to live with dignity and to exercise basic human rights. I hope that someday they can live in a society where these rights are respected and upheld."

ChatGPT's responses appear to provide general-level answers about North Korea, but in December last year, just one month after its release, it gave answers that deviated from common sense. British journalist Chris Stokel-Walker pointed out in an article titled "What ChatGPT and AI Mean for Science," published in the international academic journal Nature on the 6th, that in December last year, ChatGPT made a statement saying "North Korean people should be tortured." While noting, "It no longer responds that way," he expressed concern that "it could cause AI users to develop incorrect biases about countries like North Korea."

Meanwhile, ChatGPT is an "AI conversational service" provided by a company co-founded by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and others. When users input questions on the internet, it provides answers and can write academic papers or even speeches for leaders. Recently, the number of users has been estimated to have surpassed 100 million.
