[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Brothers who stole money and valuables while going around houses and commercial buildings in the Seoul metropolitan area were caught by the police.

On the 8th, the Gangbuk Police Station in Seoul announced that they had sent two men in their 40s to the prosecution earlier this month on charges of habitual theft. The police arrested them on the 28th of last month.

The brothers are suspected of breaking into houses and commercial buildings in the Seoul metropolitan area between the 5th and 25th of last month and committing theft. They broke into commercial buildings during early morning hours and stole cash and cards from safes. It is known that they committed crimes not only in the Gangbuk-gu area but also in several other regions such as Uijeongbu, Dongducheon, Yeoncheon, and Seongnam.

The valuables stolen by them over 28 incidents amount to about 10 million won. During police investigations, the suspects reportedly stated that "they committed the crimes to raise money for entertainment expenses."

A police official said, "As COVID-19 subsides and outdoor activities increase, crimes such as residential intrusion and theft are on the rise," adding, "We will continue to respond proactively to maintain stable public safety."
