[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced the revision and promulgation of the "Regulations on the Opening and Use of Facilities at High Schools and Below in Busan" on the 3rd to promote the activation of school facility openings.
This revision was made in anticipation of an increase in demand for school facility use following the quarantine authorities' lifting of the indoor mask-wearing mandate.
The main contents of the revised regulations include "reducing the burden on schools in deciding whether to open facilities," "mitigating the principal's responsibility in case of accidents occurring during facility use," and "strengthening the education office's guidance and supervision authority over unjustified non-opening."
Additionally, a "Standard Manual for Opening and Using School Facilities" was prepared to enhance the uniformity of facility opening and usage operations. Each school drafts usage rules based on the education office's standard manual and posts them on the "School Facility Usage Reservation Management System."
In particular, the revision clearly states that the principal will not be held responsible for accidents occurring during the use of school facilities, which had been an obstacle to activating facility openings.
Going forward, the Busan Office of Education plans to fully commit to activating facility openings by surveying the status of school facility openings quarterly and managing schools that do not open their facilities, aiming to achieve a higher facility opening rate than before COVID-19.
Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, urged, "Please open the facilities as much as possible within the scope that does not interfere with school educational activities."
