[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] Digital Healthcare Partners (DHP), a specialized investment firm in digital healthcare, announced on February 8 that it will open the 5th session of the ‘DHP Digital Healthcare Academy,’ a professional training program covering the entire digital healthcare field, and begin recruiting students.


Recently, digital healthcare has gained significant attention both technologically and industrially as innovations in digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) have been integrated into the medical and healthcare sectors. Especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine has been activated worldwide, leading to rapid growth and a sharp increase in investments not only in Korea but globally. The government is also showing strong interest, with Minister of Health and Welfare Cho Kyu-hong mentioning in this year’s New Year’s address the goal of becoming a global hub in the digital healthcare sector.


DHP is Korea’s only specialized investment firm for digital healthcare startups, aiming to discover, invest in, and nurture innovative digital healthcare companies. It provides acceleration services related to early-stage investment, medical advisory and healthcare network, clinical validation, and follow-up fundraising. Since its establishment in 2016, centered on medical and healthcare experts, DHP has invested in 36 digital healthcare startups.


First launched in 2020 and now in its 5th session, the DHP Digital Healthcare Academy will cover fundamental concepts and categories of digital healthcare, with in-depth focus on key subfields such as medical AI, telemedicine, digital therapeutics (DTx), and medical informatics. Furthermore, over 13 weeks, participants will broadly study comprehensive topics related to digital healthcare, including domestic and international regulations, reimbursement systems, business models, case studies of leading startups, and investment.


Instructors include Yoonseop Choi, CEO of DHP; Jihoon Jung, IT convergence expert (former head of IT Convergence Research Institute at Myongji Hospital); Kyuha Ryu, professor in the Department of Medical Device Industry at Sungkyunkwan University (former head of Medical Device Evaluation Division at the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety); along with Chi-won Kim, Managing Director at Kakao Ventures; Youngin Kim, CEO of Gaji Lab; Jaeyong Shin, professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine at Yonsei University College of Medicine (CEO of Evertry); and Chulhyun Cho, professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Korea University College of Medicine?digital healthcare experts spanning medical and industry-academic fields.


Besides instructors, the program offers networking opportunities with over 350 alumni, including corporate executives, startups, venture capitalists, academics, and university hospital professors, providing participants with a chance to enter the industry.


The academy will be conducted online in a non-face-to-face format for 13 weeks starting April 6, with two offline networking events planned. Detailed information and enrollment methods can be found on the DHP website.


Yoonseop Choi, CEO of DHP, stated, “This is the most comprehensive and in-depth educational program in the digital healthcare field in Korea,” adding, “Those who complete this course will be equipped with the minimum qualifications to become digital healthcare experts.”
