430 Billion KRW Invested Over 3 Years to Drive Innovation Growth

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The large-scale industrial complex renovation project, a key initiative promoted by Ulsan City, is expected to proceed smoothly.


Ulsan City announced that on the 8th at 2 p.m., it will hold the '2023 Industrial Complex Renovation Promotion Plan Report Meeting' in the situation room on the 7th floor of the main building, with about 10 participants including heads of departments related to the project and officials from related organizations.


At the report meeting, the progress of projects carried out since last year will be reviewed to ensure the smooth promotion of the industrial complex renovation project, and this year's promotion plans will be shared.


The Ulsan City industrial complex renovation project, with the vision of 'Creating an Eco-Mobility Innovation Smart Cluster toward a Carbon Neutral Industrial Complex,' started last year and will be promoted over three years until 2024.


The total project cost is 437.7 billion KRW (national funds 253.3 billion KRW, city funds 89.8 billion KRW, private funds 94.6 billion KRW).

The project targets Ulsan Mipo National Industrial Complex as the base complex, with Techno and Maegok General Industrial Complexes as linked complexes, and Jungsan 1·2, Maegok 2·3, Ihwa, and Modular General Industrial Complexes as linked regions.


The project goals include creating 4,500 jobs, attracting 72 mobility companies, eliminating safety accidents, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and achieving an 80% worker satisfaction score.


The three main focus tasks are ▲ Mobility industry transformation of core manufacturing industries ▲ Operation of carbon-neutral smart industrial complexes ▲ Improvement of workers' quality of life.


The detailed projects consist of a total of 23 tasks, including the establishment of an eco-friendly hydrogen electric vehicle safety inspection center and safety certification center, construction of a smart energy platform, establishment of a smart green industrial complex integrated control center, and demonstration of an AI-based heavy cargo mobility logistics platform.


In the first year of the project last year, Ulsan City achieved results such as the opening of the design-led manufacturing innovation center, selection for the creation of vibrant and beautiful streets, and promotion of the establishment of the Yeongnam Region Global Skilled Technology Promotion Institute.


Choi Pyunghwan, Director of the Urban Bureau, said, “The Ulsan Mipo National Industrial Complex, the base complex, has been a pillar of the local economy for a long time, but urgent industrial structure reform was needed due to aging facilities. With the promotion of the industrial complex renovation project, the local industrial complexes will gain new innovative growth engines.”
