Gyeonggi-do Introduces 'Braille and Foreign Language Certificates' for the Visually Impaired and Others

Gyeonggi-do Introduces 'Braille and Foreign Language Certificates' for the Visually Impaired and Others Cases of Foreign Language Certificates of Commendation in Gyeonggi-do

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will add Braille and foreign languages to the governor’s commendation certificates, which are currently only in Korean, for visually impaired and foreign awardees.

The province announced on the 8th that it will introduce a specialized commendation certificate system with these additions in response to the increasing number of visually impaired and foreign residents in the province.

Previously, visually impaired or foreign commendation recipients had difficulty understanding the content of the certificates, which lowered the sense of honor and satisfaction.

Accordingly, the province will collaborate with the Gyeonggi Province Welfare Center for the Visually Impaired to produce Braille commendation certificates.

The method involves attaching Braille content stickers, specially produced by the Welfare Center for the Visually Impaired, onto printed non-Braille commendation certificates. The Braille stickers are created by the Braille education officer at the Welfare Center, who holds a Braille transcription correction qualification, to convey the meaning more accurately to visually impaired awardees.

The foreign language commendation certificates will be produced by adding the recipient’s native language below the Korean text on the certificate.

The province will begin producing and issuing these specialized commendation certificates starting this month.

Yoo Tae-il, Director of the Provincial Autonomous Administration Bureau, explained, "We created the specialized commendation certificates so that visually impaired and foreign awardees who contributed to the development of provincial administration can feel a greater sense of gratitude."
