[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will supply healthy fruits not only to daycare centers and home care children in the province but also to temporary child protection centers and shelters for abused children.
On the 8th, Gyeonggi Province announced that starting from March this year, it will newly support healthy fruits to child care facilities, temporary child protection centers, child protection treatment facilities, and shelters for abused children. To this end, the province is accepting applications for the first round until the 14th.
Last year, the province provided a total of 46 fruit snack sessions to about 500,000 children in daycare centers, local children's centers, Dahamkke Care Centers, group homes, and home care in the province.
This year, the number of provision sessions has been increased to a total of 58.
The province secured a budget of 31.3 billion KRW in consultation with 31 cities and counties to expand the supply of healthy fruits.
Healthy fruits will be provided five times a month throughout the year from January to December. The amount of fruit provided at one time is 100g per child for daycare centers; 150g for local children's centers, Dahamkke Care Centers, child care facilities, etc., where the children are older; and 200g per child for group homes and shelters for abused children.
Lee Moon-moo, Director of the Eco-friendly Agriculture Division of the province, said, "We will strive to continuously expand the Gyeonggi Province children's healthy fruit supply project so that fresh fruit snacks can create balanced eating habits for our children and contribute to the market channels of fruit farmers through increased fruit consumption."
