Namyang Dairy Products has been supporting epilepsy patients and their families and working to improve awareness by producing the special formula milk "Ketonia" for children with epilepsy for 21 years this year.
According to the industry on the 7th, Namyang Dairy Products developed the world's first liquid ketogenic formula, Ketonia, in 2002. Although the number of patients is small, making the market unprofitable and requiring huge research and facility investments, the company has quietly continued producing the product for the few patients. In partnership with Yonsei University Severance Children's Hospital, they have been providing free support activities for vulnerable patient families for 13 years since 2010. Last year, marking the 20th anniversary of Ketonia's development, they expanded the number of supported patients and carried out various sharing activities.
Along with product support, they are working with the Korea Epilepsy Association to eliminate social prejudice and discrimination faced by epilepsy patients through awareness improvement activities. Last year, through the social contribution program "Care & Cure," about 400 employees participated in the "Purple Day" event and campaign, which is the epilepsy awareness day, sending messages of encouragement to patients and families. They also provide various education and products for parents of epilepsy patients. In addition, they run public interest campaigns that consumers can directly participate in and experience, such as the "Lend Your Milk Pack" contest, which conveys public messages on the sides of milk packs, and the Purple Challenge.
A Namyang Dairy Products official said, "We are planning and conducting campaigns not only to develop products for epilepsy patients but also to help eliminate social prejudice and discrimination they face," adding, "This year, we will continue to make greater efforts to improve social awareness and to gain legislative consent for epilepsy management and support laws necessary for patients."
