[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) recently announced that it will provide heating cost support to energy-vulnerable groups struggling due to soaring heating expenses and consecutive cold waves.
GH stated on the 7th that it will pay heating costs for four months, from November last year to February this year, to residents of a total of 4,129 households, including 1,079 permanent rental housing units and 3,050 purchased rental housing units under its management.
The total support amount is 412.9 million KRW. The support method is to deduct 25,000 KRW from the rent each month for four months.
Additionally, GH plans to donate 10 million KRW to the Gyeonggi branch of the Korean Red Cross to alleviate the economic burden on vulnerable groups in the province. The donation will be delivered to families partnered through the Hope Fund (Matching Grant), which GH has been operating since 2012, and will be used for living expenses including heating costs.
The Hope Fund is a fundraising amount created by double matching the donations made by GH employees, mainly supporting grandparent-headed households and others in the province.
Kim Se-yong, president of GH, emphasized, "In a situation where the burden of winter prices has increased due to soaring energy costs, I hope this heating cost support will help our neighbors have a warm winter," and added, "We will continue to strive not only for the stability of vulnerable groups' lives but also to enhance the residential environment value for the residents of the province."
Besides this, GH also donated 10 million KRW, including employees' salary change, to support vulnerable groups in the welfare blind spots of Gyeonggi Province.
