[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is promoting a policy to reduce the economic burden on ordinary citizens by implementing a discount event on hydrogen car charging fees using the Green Card, which can be used at hydrogen charging stations within the city starting from February, in cooperation with Gyeongnam Bank.
Amid ongoing difficulties for ordinary citizens due to the continuous rise in gasoline and diesel prices, the city has been conducting ongoing business consultations with Gyeongnam Bank to reduce the economic burden of hydrogen gas charging fees for hydrogen vehicle users.
Accordingly, Gyeongnam Bank has decided to actively issue the Green Card, which offers discount benefits when charging hydrogen gas for hydrogen vehicle users. Previously, the number of affiliated stores at Changwon City's hydrogen charging stations was limited, restricting the range of benefits, but with this agreement, all hydrogen charging stations within Changwon City have been added to expand the benefit coverage.
This Green Card provides a discount of up to 30,000 KRW per month depending on the previous month's card usage when charging hydrogen vehicles. More detailed information regarding card issuance and usage can be confirmed at Gyeongnam Bank branches, and the Green Card can be used at eight hydrogen charging stations within Changwon City (Pallyong, Seongju, Deokdong, Jungang, Jukgok, Sarim, Gap'o, Daewon).
Changwon City currently supplies 1,400 hydrogen passenger cars and 35 hydrogen buses, the largest scale among local governments. To reduce the economic burden on hydrogen vehicle users, benefits such as acquisition tax and automobile tax reductions are provided. This time, the city actively persuaded the private company Gyeongnam Bank to lower the economic entry barrier for citizens regarding hydrogen cars, encouraging interest in using hydrogen vehicles.
Ryu Hyo-jong, Director of the Future Strategy Industry Bureau, stated, “We will continue to discover convenience policies for hydrogen vehicle users through consultations with various organizations to reduce the economic burden on citizens using hydrogen cars and to raise general citizens’ interest in hydrogen vehicles, while striving to create an environment for a hydrogen industry city.”
