The movie 'Titanic' returning in 4K 3D has risen to number one in advance ticket sales a day before its release. Will it even surpass the momentum of 'The First Slam Dunk'?
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system at 9 a.m. on the 7th, 'Titanic: 25th Anniversary' recorded a real-time reservation rate of 31.4%, ranking first in overall advance ticket sales. The number of reserved viewers is 57,962. 'The First Slam Dunk' took second place with a 21.3% reservation rate, with 39,307 reserved viewers.
'Titanic: 25th Anniversary' is a newly remastered 4K 3D version of 'Titanic,' which depicts the fateful love and unexpected tragedy of Jack and Rose aboard the world's greatest ocean liner, the Titanic. The original film set the record for the highest number of Academy Awards won in history with 11 awards when it was released in 1998 and ranked third in worldwide box office earnings of all time. The century's romance, remastered in 4K 3D, is attracting attention by topping advance ticket sales despite being a re-release.
Two films directed by James Cameron are expected to dominate the box office rankings. 'Avatar: The Way of Water,' released on December 14 last year, has continued its success with a cumulative audience of 10,567,576 as of the 7th. The re-release of 'Titanic' is joining the lineup to attract more viewers.
For the time being, foreign films are expected to occupy the top spots at the box office. The counterattack of 'The First Slam Dunk' is also fierce. It has held the number one spot at the box office for 11 consecutive days. The cumulative audience has reached 2,392,408, nearing the 2.5 million mark.
'The First Slam Dunk' is a film depicting the dreams, passion, and relentless challenges of the five members of the Buk San High School basketball team aiming for national domination. It continues its success by ranking in the top three of the highest-grossing Japanese animations in Korea, following 'Your Name.' (2016) with 3.79 million viewers and 'Howl's Moving Castle' (2004) with 2.61 million viewers.
The film's team plans to sustain the momentum through the weekend by holding a stage greeting on the 11th with voice actors Kang Su-jin (voice of Kang Baek-ho), Shin Yong-woo (Seo Tae-woong), Eom Sang-hyun (Song Tae-seop), Jang Min-hyuk (Jung Dae-man), Choi Nak-yoon (Chae Chi-soo), and voice actress So-yeon (voice of Lee Han-na), the basketball team's manager.
Next week, a Marvel movie is coming. 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,' releasing on the 15th, is expected to take over the baton. As the film marks the beginning of Marvel Phase 5, it is attracting attention, and the appearance of the most powerful villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is also expected to intrigue audiences.
