Creation of youth-tailored spaces such as shared kitchens, OA rooms, single-person media rooms, and incubating rooms
Leading the realization of youth dreams and hopes... Implementing various youth support policies
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) has established the Seoul Youth Center ‘Yeongdeungpo Orang,’ a youth-exclusive space, and began pilot operation from the 6th.
As of December last year, the youth population in Yeongdeungpo was a total of 130,069, accounting for 34% of the total population. However, there is no dedicated space for youth, who make up one-third of the total population.
Accordingly, the district established ‘Yeongdeungpo Orang,’ a Seoul city youth activity support institution, to provide customized policies and services for youth. ‘Orang’ means ‘All youth, come here.’ Among the 25 autonomous districts, 12 districts operate ‘Orang.’
‘Yeongdeungpo Orang’ includes ▲incubating rooms for youth startup companies ▲OA Porang where OA equipment can be used ▲Chaek Porang, a library space ▲Jubang Porang, a shared kitchen ▲Radio Porang and Video Porang, single-person media spaces ▲Maju Porang, a 1:1 counseling space ▲Baeum Porang, an education space ▲Swim Porang, a resting space ▲and Moim Porang and Gachi Porang, spaces for youth clubs and networks. The district plans to operate various programs such as employment and capacity-building programs for youth in the future.
‘Yeongdeungpo Orang’ is located on the 2nd floor of the Dangsan-dong station-area youth housing, an 8-minute walk from Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station on subway lines 2 and 5. Any Seoul youth aged 19 to 39 can freely use the space. However, some spaces such as Video Porang require prior reservation through the Seoul Public Service Reservation website.
In February, it operates on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, from March, it will operate on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Additionally, the district has operated courses such as ▲single-person media creator training ▲metaverse content planning and developer training ▲big data analysis to strengthen youth capabilities and support employment. In the future, in response to the 4th industrial era, the district plans to newly promote ▲employment-linked consulting through youth metaverse platform operation ▲digital marketing expert training courses ▲and coding education.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “We will implement various youth-tailored policies for young people struggling with employment difficulties and economic crises,” and added, “Seoul Youth Center Yeongdeungpo Orang will do its best to become a community hub space for youth who will lead Yeongdeungpo’s future and a space where youth can realize their dreams.”

Various Free Craft Experiences and On-site Events to Celebrate the 5th Anniversary
Craftsmanship has been blurring the boundaries between everyday objects and art as time passes. Ceramic craft is establishing an independent field called ‘modern pottery’ within this context.
Yongsan-gu is holding a special exhibition titled ‘Gong (工) and Ye (藝) - Standing Before Modern Pottery’ from February 7 to March 5 to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the opening of the Yongsan Craft Center.
The exhibition features 30 works by potter Kim Hyun-sik, displayed in the multipurpose room on the 4th floor of Yongsan Craft Center (274 Itaewon-ro). His ceramic sculptures, which interpret ‘Korean beauty’ with a modern design sensibility, are famous for evoking empathy across generations.
Notable works include Meditation Ⅱ, Drawing of Flowers, Meditation Ⅰ, The Sound of the Sea, Song of the Wind, and Thought.
Since its opening, Yongsan Craft Center has focused on exhibitions centered on traditional Korean crafts. This special exhibition offers visitors, who are accustomed to appreciating traditional craft works, an opportunity to experience modern ceramic craft works.
Kim Seon-su, Acting Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “Yongsan Craft Center has led the promotion of craft culture and industry over the past five years,” adding, “We will prepare various online and offline events to become a beloved regional hub in the craft field.”
In addition to the special exhibition, the 5th anniversary events continue at Yongsan Craft Center. On the 3rd, the district selected 15 winners by lottery from 70 participants in the Yongsan Craft Center 5-acrostic poem contest. The winners can participate in free craft experiences: silver clay accessories (5 people) and lacquered cutting boards (5 people) on the 11th, and colored paper ceramics (5 people) on the 12th. On the 11th, an on-site event will be held where 50 visitors who follow the Craft Center’s SNS will receive giveaways.
Yongsan Craft Center is located a 3-minute walk from Exit 3 of Hangangjin Station on subway line 6. It has three basement floors and four above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 2,800㎡, and opened in 2018. It includes a craft product sales area on the 1st floor, a ceramics and hanbok experience center on the 2nd floor, a craft learning center and workshop on the 3rd floor, and exhibition halls and an outdoor performance hall on the 4th floor. Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, and admission is free.
