[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety conducted an on-site inspection of manufacturers following reports that at least dozens of people experienced food poisoning symptoms such as stomach upset after eating raw beef (Yukhoe) purchased through an online "special sale."
The Ministry announced that the Gwangju Regional Food and Drug Safety Office visited two Yukhoe manufacturing companies located in Naju, Jeollanam-do on the 6th to carry out the inspection.
At the site, the Gwangju office checked hygienic handling of the meat, compliance with preservation and distribution standards, and the hygiene management status of manufacturing facilities, and collected samples for investigation into the cause of the food poisoning. Analysis of contamination by food poisoning bacteria is expected to take more than a week.
Earlier, several posts appeared on online communities such as FM Korea reporting diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain after consuming Yukhoe ordered via the internet. The product was listed on the "Hot Deal" board introducing special price items on the 6th of last month and was sold through various online shopping malls.
