Goheung-gun Launches Compensation Support for Wildlife Damage

Minimizing Farm Damage Caused by Wildlife

[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) is promoting the ‘Wildlife Damage Compensation Project’ to compensate farm income for damages caused by wild animals such as wild boars and water deer.

The support targets are farmers, foresters, and fishermen residing and cultivating land in Goheung-gun who have suffered damage to crops, forest products, or aquaculture products due to wild animals, or have directly suffered human injury caused by wild animals.

This project supports 80% of the damage amount calculated based on the ‘Standard Income Data for Agricultural and Livestock Products’ published by the Rural Development Administration, considering factors such as damage area, income amount, crop growth stage, and damage rate.

Applications for damage compensation must be submitted through the eup/myeon office within 5 days after the damage occurs, preserving the damage site. The compensation amount is determined through an on-site investigation. Compensation for crops and other damages can be up to 5 million KRW, and compensation for human injury can be up to 10 million KRW.

However, illegally reclaimed forest land, plots not registered in the agricultural register, and cases where the calculated compensation amount is less than 100,000 KRW are excluded from support.

A county official stated, “We plan to minimize farm damage caused by harmful wild animals by operating a harmful wildlife damage prevention team and implementing the crop damage compensation support project simultaneously.”
