61% of Respondents "Will Not Use AI in the Future"
[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] About 70% of global financial sector workers believe that artificial intelligence (AI) like ChatGPT will not threaten their jobs for the time being.
On the 6th (local time), Bloomberg's survey service 'MLIV Pulse Survey' recently surveyed 292 financial sector workers and asked whether AI would be able to perform the core tasks of their jobs within the next three years. 69% answered 'impossible.'
These responses varied by job type. The highest percentage was from research, strategy, and economist roles at 80.4%. This was followed by senior management (76.9%), portfolio managers (74.5%), individual investors (71.9%), asset management firms and hedge funds (68.4%), and securities firms and investment banks (65.4%). Sales positions had the lowest at 46.7%.
When asked about plans to utilize AI in their roles, the most common response was 'no plans' (61%). Relatively fewer answered 'planning to use' (27%) or 'already using AI' (12%).
Regarding plans to buy stocks related to generative AI systems like ChatGPT in the next six months, opinions were evenly split. The ratio of 'yes' (49%) and 'no' (51%) was similar. During this period, 41% responded that they would 'increase' their investment in technology stocks, which was higher than those who would 'maintain' (38%) or 'decrease' (22%) their investment.
Bloomberg commented on the survey results, stating, "This contrasts with the recent surge in AI-related stocks following Microsoft's decision to invest $10 billion (about 12.5 trillion won) in OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, and the growing public interest in ChatGPT."
