[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-seon] Suseong-gu, Daegu, will install toad roadkill prevention fences on the 7th at Mangwolji in Uksu-dong, the largest toad collective spawning site in the country.
The installation section is a 450m stretch from Mangwolji to the entrance of the Uksusan hiking trail. More than 60 people, including Suseong-gu Office and the Nature Conservation Suseong-gu Council, will participate in joint public-private nature conservation activities.
Members of Daegu Suseong-gu Office and the Suseong-gu Council for Nature Protection installed fences last year at Mangwolji to prevent toad roadkill.
Every year, from February to March, fences are installed to secure a safe passage for adult toads descending from their habitat in Uksusan to Mangwolji for spawning. This has been carried out annually since a large-scale toad spawning site was discovered at Mangwolji in April 2007.
After installing the fences, Suseong-gu, Daegu, will frequently check the water level and sluice gate status of Mangwolji from February, the adult toad spawning season, until the end of May when the young toads move. They will also conduct monitoring activities against fence damage and water pollution.
