Lee Hee-beom, Former Minister of Industry and Resources, Appointed as New Chairman of Booyoung Group

[Asia Economy Reporter Noh Kyung-jo] Lee Hee-beom, former Minister of Industry and Resources, has been appointed as the new chairman of Booyoung Group.


Booyoung Group announced on the 6th that Lee, the former minister, was appointed as the new chairman, replacing Shin Myung-ho, who retired after serving a term of 4 years and 8 months.


Chairman Lee is regarded as the right person to help the group's growth due to his extensive experience and broad understanding of current issues.


At the inauguration ceremony, Chairman Lee said, "I am honored to be appointed as the chairman of Booyoung Group, which has consistently played the role of a 'housing ladder' by supplying the largest number of rental apartments in the country, enabling the homeless to own their homes." He added, "Although the economic situation is difficult due to domestic and international uncertainties, if we unite our minds during such times, we can overcome the crisis and create new opportunities."


Born in Andong, Chairman Lee graduated from Seoul National University College of Engineering and passed the 12th Administrative Examination as the top candidate, entering public service. He has since served as Minister of Industry and Resources, Chairman of the Korea International Trade Association, Chairman of the Korea Employers Federation, Chairman of STX Heavy Industries, Vice Chairman of LG Corporation, and CEO of the Gyeongbuk Cultural Foundation. He was also the organizing committee chairman of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, successfully leading the first Winter Olympics held in South Korea.
