20th Anniversary of Entering the Korean Market
Korea Papa John’s Pizza announced on the 6th that it has launched two special new menu items, the ‘Greenit Plant-Based Pizzas,’ to commemorate its 20th anniversary of entering the Korean market.
The cheese used in the Greenit Plant-Based Pizzas is a mozzarella-style cheese from Sheese, a UK vegan cheese brand with 33 years of tradition certified by the UK Vegan Society. It is made solely from plant-based ingredients such as coconut oil, starch, and soy dietary fiber. Additionally, it contains no lactose, gluten, or dairy, making it enjoyable for everyone without any burden.
According to the Korea Vegetarian Union as of last year, the domestic vegan population is estimated to be around 1.5 to 2 million. Currently, the vegetable pizza sold by Papa John’s Pizza, the Garden Special, accounts for about 2% of total sales.
The new menu actively reflects the growing demand for vegan consumption, which continues to increase due to personal health or beliefs. The varieties include the ‘Greenit Plant-Based Margherita’ and the ‘Greenit Plant-Based Garden Special,’ both sold only in the original crust large size. Only Greenit products can be enjoyed as half-and-half. Orders can be placed through Papa John’s Pizza’s online channels (website, mobile web, or app), call center, store visits, as well as all delivery apps where the brand is available.
Jeon Jung-gu, President of Korea Papa John’s, stated, “Although the Korean market currently represents a minority compared to the overseas vegan population, we believe it is the role of Korea’s representative premium pizza brand to actively respond to the preferences of individual consumers.” He added, “Going forward, leveraging the strengths of a global brand, we will proactively respond to the rapidly changing global food culture trends, meet the segmented needs of customers, and lead the domestic pizza market trends.”
