Suwon City Operates 24-Hour Mobile Response Team for 'Road Assassins' Potholes

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province will operate a mobile response team for 24-hour management of 'potholes' that cause dangerous accidents on the roads.

On the 6th, Suwon City announced that it will operate the 'Pothole 24-Hour Mobile Response Team' until the end of next month to prevent accidents caused by potholes and create a safe and pleasant road environment.

Potholes are depressions or holes formed by the erosion of the road surface, posing a threat to citizens' safety. They mainly occur during winter and thawing periods when the asphalt pavement freezes and melts repeatedly, causing expansion and contraction. Moisture penetrates through the cracks, weakening the asphalt binding and frequently causing holes.

Accordingly, Suwon City will activate the 'Pothole 24-Hour Mobile Response Team,' composed of officials from the city hall and the construction departments of four districts, aiming for '24-hour response and repair.'

The mobile response team patrols the roads at least once a day in coordination with each neighborhood to repair potholes. Additionally, an emergency contact network and urgent repair team will be organized during nighttime and holidays to promptly respond to complaints.

The city also strengthens cooperation with citizens for pothole repairs. Reports are received through the 'Gyeonggi-do Road Monitoring Group,' consisting of bus and taxi drivers and citizens.

Moreover, for sections where potholes frequently occur, road resurfacing will be carried out in March and April using paving methods appropriate to the road damage condition.

A city official stated, "We will do our best to ensure that potholes are addressed within 24 hours of discovery and that restoration work such as road resurfacing is carried out to prevent damage to vehicles and loss of life."
