Ministry of Science and ICT Announces Call for Projects on Unlicensed Frequency Demonstration 사업

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 5th that it will open a call for projects for the "Unlicensed Frequency Utilization Promising Technology Demonstration Project" from the 6th of this month to the 7th of next month.

Devices using radio frequencies are generally required to obtain government permission or report approval. However, through the unlicensed frequency system, the government supports the use of certain frequencies and devices below a specified output level without permission or reporting, provided there is no risk of interference.

Currently, the Ministry of Science and ICT supports the early market establishment of promising technologies and services utilizing unlicensed frequencies through demonstration projects.

This year, a total of seven projects will be supported, including one "2022 Excellent Project Continuous Support" and six new projects.

Last year, 15 organizations and companies, including Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Gyeongnam Technopark, Seoul Metro, and small and medium enterprises, participated, and a total of eight projects received support.

The project call is divided into ▲Technology Verification Type (2 projects) ▲Regional Strategy Type (2 projects) ▲Service Leading Type (2 projects) according to demonstration difficulty and linkage with local governments.

Any domestic organization or entity, including companies, local governments, and public institutions capable of demonstrating technologies or services utilizing unlicensed frequencies, can participate.

Choi Woo-hyuk, Director of the Radio Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "We will actively support demonstration projects so that unlicensed frequency utilization technologies can be established early in the market and develop global competitiveness. At the same time, we will reflect demonstration results in related system improvements to continuously advance the unlicensed frequency system."
