21,900 Basic Livelihood Security Households Receive 100,000 Won Each
Efforts to Identify Non-Applicants and Address Energy Blind Spots Underway
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City will provide a temporary emergency heating cost support of 2.2 billion KRW to low-income vulnerable groups struggling with increased heating costs amid soaring heating demand due to the ongoing cold wave.
The support targets 21,900 households receiving basic livelihood security (living, medical, housing, education) benefits as of February 2023, and the support will be provided directly to the benefit receiving accounts without a separate application.
In addition, the city plans to extract a list of those who have not applied for fee reduction services (electricity and city gas fees) and conduct promotional activities such as sending notices, phone calls, and visits to alleviate the economic burden on vulnerable groups in blind spots.
Mayor Kangdeok Lee said, “I hope this will provide some help to citizens struggling to get through the winter due to this year’s unusual cold wave,” adding, “We will continue to pay close attention and do our best to eliminate energy blind spots.”
