On the 4th (local time), Kang Sung-hoon surged with 4 under-par over 10 holes in the third round of the PGA Tour AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (total prize money $9 million) held at Pebble Beach Monterey Peninsula Country Club (par 71, 6,957 yards) in California, USA, climbing to a tie for 11th place (7 under-par). Due to severe weather followed by sunset, not a single player completed the round.
This tournament is a pro-am format where the first three rounds are played across three courses including Pebble Beach Golf Links (par 72, 6,972 yards) and Spyglass Hill (par 72, 7,041 yards) alongside world-class sports stars, singers, and actors. The winner is decided on the final day at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Kang Sung-hoon started at the 10th hole (par 5) and recorded four birdies without any bogeys. His strong start was highlighted by consecutive birdies on holes 10 and 11, followed by two more birdies on the 13th hole (par 4) and 16th hole (par 5). After parring the first hole (par 4) on the back nine, play was suspended. Kang relied on his long drives averaging 316 yards and an 80% greens in regulation rate. He trails the leader by five strokes.
Kang Sung-hoon joined the PGA Tour in 2011 and celebrated his first career victory at the AT&T Byron Nelson in May 2019. Notably, he set the course record of 60 strokes at this tournament in 2016, drawing significant attention. However, this season he has competed in four tournaments but missed the cut in all, marking a period of poor performance.
Peter Malnati (USA) posted 6 under-par over 12 holes at Pebble Beach Golf Links to take the top spot on the leaderboard at 12 under-par. He is a player who secured a win at the Sanderson Farms Championship in the 2015/2016 season. Keith Mitchell (USA) is tied for 2nd place (10 under-par), and Viktor Hovland (Norway) is tied for 6th place (8 under-par) in pursuit. Jordan Spieth is tied for 63rd place (1 under-par), and defending champion Tom Hoge (both USA) is tied for 88th place (1 over-par).
From Korea, An Byeong-hoon recorded three birdies, two bogeys, and one triple bogey over nine holes at Spyglass Hill. He fell to a tie for 38th place (3 under-par) after struggling with 2 over-par. Rookie Kim Seong-hyun improved by two strokes over 13 holes to rise to a tie for 54th place (2 under-par). No Seung-yeol is tied for 63rd place.
