Record Lowest Feels-Like Temperature Observed... North America Hits -77°C

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Eunha] According to BBC and other foreign media, the lowest wind chill temperature ever recorded in North America has been reported.

According to the report, on the 3rd (local time), the wind chill temperature at Mount Washington in New Hampshire, USA, where a gust of wind struck, was recorded at minus 77 degrees Celsius. On that day, the actual temperature at the summit of Mount Washington dropped to minus 43 degrees. This is also the lowest temperature ever recorded in the area.

Some eastern regions including Quebec, Canada, and Maine, USA, are expected to set new records for the lowest wind chill temperatures since the 1980s.

On the same day, the wind chill temperature in Toronto, Canada, dropped to minus 29 degrees, and other areas are forecasted to experience wind chill temperatures as low as minus 50 degrees.

Authorities in Manitoba, Canada, and Maine have advised limiting outdoor activities for the time being, stating, "This cold wave is a once-in-a-generation event."

This cold wave is due to the Arctic front formed from the Canadian Maritime provinces to the central United States. The Arctic front is a large-scale front formed between the Arctic air mass and the polar air mass, and is one of the major fronts in the Northern Hemisphere.

Since the 30th of last month, at least 11 people have died due to severe weather in the United States.
